One of about 20 pieces of my collection, calligraphy and artwork by my martial arts teacher Hatsumi Masaaki. Brushed in black ink on paper, about 22cm x 33 cm, this is an eye-catching decoration for your wall!
I'm afraid I don't remember the year--it could be anytime between 1998-2008! Some pieces are pretty self-explanatory pictures of people, animals or objects but unfortunately I never made a note on what the kanji were...usually they are connected to the training theme for the year, a concept like "perseverence" or "dignity"; nothing lewd, I assure you!
This particular piece is "hi-mitsu" which means "secret". However, typical of Mr. Hatsumi, he has used different kanji than what is standard for the word himitsu, using the kanji for "fire" and "honey", which can together be read as himitsu...so, there's a 'secret' meaning behind the words!
A few pieces I intend to hold on to. This one is on sale simply because I could really use the money, and I've no space to display it in my place if I wanted to. But...maybe You would enjoy a piece of Japan like this!
